The Voters – a poem

October 22, 2007

The Voters

(An adaptation of Denis Glover’s "The Magpies").

Salted sand and whitened knuckle,
and Quardle ardle oodle ardle wardle doodle
The voters chuckle

Ti kouka stands like a dreadlocked fuse,
and Quardle ardle oodle ardle wardle doodle
The voters muse

Hill Country Caesars pimp the dawn,
and Quardle ardle oodle ardle wardle doodle
The voters yawn

A week’s cold dinners, an unmade bed,
and Quardle ardle oodle ardle wardle doodle
The voters said

Late home from work, pens a letter to ed,
and Quardle ardle oodle ardle wardle doodle
The voters said

A moko’s memories in a breaker’s heigh,
yet Quardle ardle oodle ardle wardle doodle
The voters say.
