Pundits
BayBuzz invited three politically aware and vocal commentators to share their thinking on the upcoming election, and specifically, how they intend to vote. Making the case for the Greens is environmental advocate Dave Head. For Labour, former Hastings Councillor Dean Hyde. And for National, Regional Councillor Ewan McGregor.
We asked three other pundits to share their observations about three issues on the minds of many Hawke’s Bay voters – health, the environment, and law & order. Addressing health is former Napier Councillor Robin Gwynn. Focusing on the environment is Iain Maxwell, HB Regional Manager of Fish & Game. And speaking to law & order is writer Mark Sweet.
Finally, Brendan Webb, a veteran journalist many of you will recognize, and our perennial “house grouch” Tim Gilbertson, offer their idiosyncratic views of the election. As best I can tell, their message is … “a pox on both your houses!”
- For Greens — Dave Head
- For Labour — Dean Hyde
- For National — Ewan McGregor
- On Health — Robin Gwynn
- On Environment — Iain Maxwell
- On Law & Order — Mark Sweet
- “No personality is better” — Brendan Webb
- “Same as the old boss” — Tim Gilbertson

Not only is there no Maori voice in this election edition, Tom, but there’s not a single female on your list of eight hand-picked “politically aware and vocal commentators”.
I’m not one for conspiracy theories, but what happened to gender and ethnic balance in your choice of Buzzmakers?
That’s a very good point Maxine!
And one that there has been no answer too!
The fact that only you raise it should be a cause of concern about the balance & inclusiveness of ‘Baybuzz’.
Maybe it’s not too late to ask the Maori Party to contribute???
Cheers
Dave
