Covid Recovery

BayBuzz Team01 May 2020

The talk this week has been about recovery and takeaways. While it’s awesome that we support our local businesses (and hbathome.co.nz makes it easy), there’s been way too much righteous fastfood shaming  – maybe check in with yourself first, that you’re not just being an asshole.

Right, so now for the data.

No change in numbers for the Bay third day in a row: “no new cases, no new recoveries, and no-one in hospital”, says the DHB. Over the last week there’s been 1,088 tests undertaken in the region, including the surveillance tests that picked up two asymptomatic cases – both healthcare workers linked to Gladys Mary Care Home and the Ruby Princess cluster. Of our 44 local cases, 68% are now deemed recovered.

In today’s news, genetic scientists at the ESR (Institute of Environmental Science and Research) have been genetically mapping Covid-19 cases across the country and results so far indicate the outbreak in NZ was generated by “remarkably few” unique cases, just 35 – all international introductions.
