Real support for Māori SMEs to get through the next 18 to 24 months post COVID-19 is the focus at Hawke’s Bay Opera House – ToiToi Centre on Tuesday 18 August.

Over 120 Māori businesses are expected at the Māori Economic Summit 2020 Hui to learn what support is on offer from various agencies including Inland Revenue, Te Puni Kokiri, Ministry of Social Development, Provincial Development, and the HB Business Hub.

Described as an informative and interactive day of collaboration, a feature will be a ‘Dragon’s Den’ type session where 10 businesses will get to promote their services and aspirations, with the audience voting on the top two to receive a cash prize.

Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga is hosting the Hastings hui, one of a series being held around the country during August. Sponsored by The Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency, the huis aim to identify key strategic opportunities to inform a National Māori Strategy.

Taiwhenua chief executive, George Reedy says that the key objective of the hui will focus on empowering not only emerging Māori enterprises but those small businesses that were badly affected due to the COVID–19 lockdown.
