The annual Hastings Blossom Festival takes place this Saturday 3 October and the theme for the parade is ‘Flower Power – New Growth’.

Starting in Albert Square from 10am, the parade moves off at 11am and while it will be a little smaller than previous years due to Covid, there is much to enjoy. The ‘Battle of Hastings’ is a re-enactment of the riot of 1960 involving the 1960 fire truck and the Hastings Fire Brigade and the parade will end with the ever-popular foam cannon. There will be free parking in Hastings

This week in preparation for the parade, Dali Susanto is painting the windows of 40+ shops in the 200 block in his distinctive, happy style of images. He’s been at it all week and is attracting curious passersby who are stopping to chat and asking what he’s up to.

Also during this week, Arts Inc Heretaunga is running a competition. There will be 10 shops with an extra flower petal in the window and the competition is to find all 10 petals. The participating shops are in Heretaunga St from 200 block East to 300 block West (Warren St to Nelson St) and prizes of $500, $300 and $200 to be spent in a shop of their choice (only shops that participate in the window decoration can be chosen).

Entry forms can be picked up from the Hastings Community  Centre, 106 Russell St, Hastings i-Site, or downloaded from Hastings Blossom Parade fb, Arts Inc Heretaunga fb or www.artsinc.co.nz
