Waimarama Surf Lifesaving Club

Last year we rescued 32 people on Waimarama Beach
This year – will it be you or someone you love?

Our lifeguards also completed over 2,600 volunteer patrol hours last year, performed 7 searches for missing people and over 330 preventative actions.

For the last 65 years, the Waimarama Surf Lifesaving Club has patrolled Waimarama Beach every summer. Over those years, many lives have been saved and we still continue to save lives and prevent injury, every year and every weekend from early November to late March.

It is important that our lifeguards are fit and able to react with a moment’s notice to a possible rescue situation and so involvement in Surf Sports is a crucial part of lifeguarding. Training in their rescue craft and core swimming training are vital to our lifeguards being able to gain knowledge of their own limitations, understanding of beach conditions, how rips and currents work, and speed – in a drowning situation, seconds count.

Competition is designed to provide this element of urgency, so constant training and competition finely tunes and hones all their skills for a possible rescue scenario at any time.

Our lifeguards are currently competing in local, regional and national events. Revenue we earn from delivering BayBuzz to local areas contributes to the costs of attending these competitions.

We welcome your support as well.
